How to Tell If a Pickle Is Actually Organic (Not Just Labeled That Way)

How to Tell If a Pickle Is Actually Organic (Not Just Labeled That Way)

TL;DR: A genuinely organic pickle should name its certifying body (e.g. NPOP/India Organic or an accredited private certifier). If a brand only says "100% organic" with no certification named, treat it as an unverified marketing claim, not a guarantee — though it may still be genuinely chemical-free.

"Organic" gets used loosely in Indian food marketing. Here's how to actually verify it:

  1. Ask which body certified it. Legitimate organic products name their certifier (NPOP/India Organic, or a recognized private certification agency).
  2. No certifier named ≠ automatically fake — but it does mean unverified. Many small, genuinely chemical-free producers haven't gone through formal (and expensive) certification yet. The honest ones will say "chemical-free/pesticide-free" rather than legally claiming "organic" without certification.
  3. Check the ingredient sourcing story. Do they name their farmers/region, or is it vague?
  4. Look for pesticide-free ≠ preservative-free confusion. These are two different claims — a pickle can be preservative-free (no added chemical preservatives) without every raw ingredient being certified-organic farmed.

We're transparent about this ourselves: our ingredients are sourced to be as pure and chemical-free as possible, and we describe our claims accurately rather than using "organic" loosely — trust is worth more to us than a marketing shortcut.
